Degree Requirements

  • 120 total semester credit hours, including Core Curriculum, Geology major, and Education sequence.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5 required for teacher certification and professional development courses.
  • Grade of C‑ or better in all Geology and Education courses used toward degree.
Science Education Requirements
  • At least 30 credits at UTPB, with at least 24 of the final 30 credits completed here.
  • At least 48 upper-level credit hours.
  • Teaching track professional development sequence, approved through UTeach–Natural Sciences:
    • Curriculum & Instruction courses (101, 110, 170, 365C, 365D, 365E)
    • UTeach-Natural Sciences courses (350, 355, 360)
  • Supporting courses across biology, chemistry, physics, history or philosophy to meet composite certification requirements.
  • Fulfillment of Geology major requirements including GEOL 4600 Advanced Field Geology and other electives standard to the BS program.
