The Petroleum Technology Certificate, available to students pursuing Industrial Technology degrees, provides focused training in the systems and technologies that drive modern energy production.
Coursework explores petroleum fundamentals, drilling operations, production systems, and pipeline technology while preparing students for technical roles supporting the energy industry throughout the Permian Basin and beyond.
Certificate Requirements: 12 Credit Hours
Students complete 12 credit hours, beginning with Petroleum Fundamentals and follower by 9 credit hours of advanced petroleum technology coursework focused on exploration, production, drilling, and transportation systems.
Required Courses Include:
- PTEC 3301 — Petroleum Fundamentals (minimum grade of C required)
- PTEC 3302 — Petroleum Fluids and Natural Gas
- PTEC 3304 — Drilling Technology
- PTEC 4301 — Petroleum Production Technology
- PTEC 4302 — Pipeline Technology
- PTEC 4304 — Wireline, Mud Logging, and Core Analysis
*Petroleum Engineering (PENG) courses may be substituted with department approval. Petroleum-related internship experiences may also be applied toward the certificate when appropriate.
