Transfer & Returning Students

Transfer students seeking admission, who have accumulated 24schs or more from regionally accredited colleges or universities (post-secondary school), must meet the following entrance requirements:

• Submit official transcripts to the Office of Admissions from all colleges and universities previously attended. All documents submitted become the property of UT Permian Basin and will not be returned to the student.
• Must have a 2.0 grade point average or better on a 4.0 grading system in previous college work.
• Must not be on academic or disciplinary suspension from any previously attended college or university (be eligible to re-enroll in the colleges or universities previously attended).

All admitted students must satisfy the TSI requirements and placement testing of the University. Students who do not successfully meet these requirements or who enter with academic deficiencies may be admitted conditionally. Conditionally admitted students will complete a student success plan as one of the conditions for their admissions. To be removed from conditional status, a student must:

• Complete twelve or more general education credit requirements from UT Permian Basin with grades of "C" or better in each course; and 
• Complete other enrollment requirements consistent with his or her deficiencies at the time of application.

A transfer applicant from a non-accredited institution may be considered for conditional admission by the Admissions Review Committee. A transfer student admitted conditionally must achieve a grade point average of 2.0 or above for the first 30 hours of course work undertaken at UT Permian Basin and is subject to academic dismissal at any time the grade point average falls below 2.0.

*Non-accredited institutional courses will not transfer.

Students transferring from OC or MC will automatically have their application fee waived.

You may qualify for an Application Fee Waiver if you are able to submit:

• Copy of Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) with an estimated family SAI (Student Aid Index) of -1500 to 999999.

Qualifying fee waiver from CollegeBoard, ACT, or NACAC from their official websites.

Transferable credit is college-level academic credit completed at a regionally accredited institution. Credits considered developmental, remedial, technical, or vocational will not transfer.

Regionally Accepted Accreditations:

• Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges (ACCJC) Western Association of Schools and Colleges
• Higher Learning Commission (HLC)
• Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU)
• Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC)

Minimum Grade: To be eligible for transfer, courses must have a grade of "C" or higher. Credits with a "D" grades may be included in the total number of credit hours to be accepted for transfer to UT Permian Basin; however, D grades will not be accepted to fulfill the requirements of a major, minor or any General Education requirement.

Official Evaluation: Your official credit evaluation will be completed after you have applied, submitted all official transcripts, and been officially admitted to the University.

Texas residents can apply to UT Permian Basin under the Academic Fresh Start statute (Texas Education Code, Sec.51.931), which allows them to exclude college coursework completed 10 or more years ago from admission consideration. To use this option, applicants must notify the Office of Admissions in writing and speak with an admissions representative about how it will affect their credits and grades.

Under this program, older coursework and grades will not be counted for admission purposes. However, students who choose Academic Fresh Start will not receive credit for any courses taken 10 or more years prior to enrollment. All other standard admission requirements still apply.

If a student later earns a bachelor’s degree under this plan and applies to a public postgraduate or professional program, only the GPA earned after enrolling under Academic Fresh Start will be considered, along with the institution’s usual admission criteria.

Must show evidence of having received the Bacterial Meningitis vaccination or qualified exemption. (Students who are 22 years of age or older or planning to take online courses only - no campus-based courses- are exempt.)

The Texas Success Initiative (TSI) is a state-required program designed to ensure students are prepared for college-level coursework through assessment, advising, and developmental support. First-time college students must complete the TSI Assessment before their first semester. Since Fall 2013, it has been the only test accepted for public college entry in Texas. TSI test scores remain valid for five years from the testing date.
