At UT Permian Basin, the broad-based curriculum of the B.S. in Biology will have you immersed in the molecular worlds of genetics, physiology, cell biology, chemistry and physics. Biology is one of the broadest and most important subjects in the world. Put simply, it is the study of life. This degree plan will open up both research and professional opportunities.
Careers for Biology Majors
Biology is a diverse degree that will grant you entrance into a number of professions, including:
- Biological Technician/Research Assistant
- Biochemist
- Genetic Counselor
- Health Communications Specialist
- Health Educator
- Environmental Scientist
Degree Requirements
- The B.S. in Biology requires a minimum of 120 total credits.
- All required and elective courses must be completed with a grade of “C-” or better.
Biology Major Requirements
- Students are required to complete 36 semester credit hours in Biology – 24 of those credits must be upper-level courses.
- There are degree specific lower and upper level courses Biology majors must take that include: Calculus, General Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, Computers and Problem Solving and History and Philosophy of Science.
- Students must also complete 20-21 semester credit hours in a minor.
