Year-round Pell

Year-round Pell is available to allow eligible students to receive a Pell Grant for summer even if they received a full Pell Grant during the fall and spring terms. To be considered for additional Pell in the summer, you must:

• be Pell eligible;
• be enrolled in a degree-seeking undergraduate program; and

Lifetime Eligibility Used

The amount of Federal Pell Grant funds you may receive over your lifetime is limited. Learn more about what the limits are and how your remaining eligibility is calculated. 

Class Attendance and Pell Grants

The amount of Federal Pell Grant you receive must be based on the number of hours in which you are enrolled and have begun attendance as of the 12th class day of each term. Therefore, after initial disbursement of your Pell Grant funds, subsequent changes may be made to the amount through the 12th class day based on your actual enrollment.

The UTPB maximum award is $2,000 per academic year. This award is based on established financial need (link to frequently asked questions) and availability of funds.

Eligibility

This grant is awarded to students with the lowest Expected Family Contributions who are also Pell eligible. If you are no longer eligible to receive the Federal Pell Grant due to having exceeded the Pell Grant lifetime eligibility limit, you will also no longer be eligible to receive the Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (FSEOG).

Our TEACH Grant Program provides grants to master/graduate students who are completing or plan to complete coursework needed to begin a career in teaching in a high need field.

Meet Requirements

• Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen
• Be admitted into an approved UTPB Degree Program:
  1. Master of Arts in Teaching Bilingual Education
  2. Master in Computer Science
  3. Master in Math
  4. Master in Arts in English SL
  5. Master of Education in Special Education
• Minimum 3.25 Cumulative GPA

Currently, UTPB's target award amount is $6500 per year. If your tuition and fee charges for the term exceed the amount of your TEXAS (Toward EXcellance, Access and Success) Grant award, UTPB will make use of other available sources of financial aid other than loans to cover the additional tuition and fee charges.

Texas Grant requires a student to pass and complete 24 credit hours with a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA each academic year in order to be eligible to receive the grant in subsequent years. The Texas Grant requires a minimum enrollment of 9 credit hours in order for the grant to disburse. If you are not meeting the required number of hours for TEXAS Grant, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) allows awards to be prorated for a lesser amount in the following situations:

• you are graduating, or
• you have less than one full term of eligibility remaining, or
• the THECB also allows institutions to consider situations where hardship can be documented. The following are hardship situations that can be considered:
  • severe illness or other debilitating condition that may affect your academic performance, or
  • you are responsible for care of sick, injured, or needy person, and that your provision of care may affect your academic performance.
