Fall 2025 commencement group

Graduation Information

Each fall and spring, the Falcon family comes together to celebrate commencement and honor the hard work and achievements of our graduates. This special tradition reflects the pride, spirit, and support that define The University of Texas Permian Basin community.

Summer Graduation and Commencement Participation

UT Permian Basin does not host commencement ceremonies during the summer term. Students who complete degree requirements and are approved to graduate in the summer may choose to participate in either the previous Spring Commencement ceremony or the upcoming Fall Commencement ceremony.

The application deadline for summer is July 10th (for degree conferral ONLY)

What Does This Mean for Summer Graduates?

Students completing their degree requirements during the summer semester have two options:

  • Participate in the Spring Commencement Ceremony (with approval)
  • Participate in the Fall Commencement Ceremony

To participate in the Fall Commencement Ceremony, the graduation application deadline is October 30.

Regardless of which ceremony you choose to attend, your degree will be officially conferred at the conclusion of the summer term.

Fall Graduation

Students completing their last courses in the fall, may apply for fall graduation in their student portal through July 10th.

  • Applications will reopen the first day of the fall semester and the deadline to apply will be October 30th

Graduating vs. Participating in Commencement

Commencement is a ceremonial event where graduates are publicly recognized and celebrated by University officials.

Graduation is the official process of earning a degree after successfully completing all required coursework and academic requirements.

Participation in a commencement ceremony does not guarantee degree completion. Diplomas are not distributed during the ceremony. To officially graduate from UT Permian Basin, students must:

  • Submit a graduation application by the published deadline
  • Complete all University, college, and departmental requirements
  • Have their degree posted to their official transcript

A degree becomes official only when it is recorded on a student’s transcript — not by participation in a commencement ceremony.

Students are not required to attend commencement in order to graduate.

Academic Advising

Advising plays an important role in ensuring you are on track to graduate and understand your anticipated graduation and commencement participation timeline. Students are encouraged to meet regularly with their academic advisor.
