Apply to the UTPB School of Nursing

To be eligible for admission to the UTPB School of Nursing, applicants must meet the following minimum academic requirements:

• Maintain a minimum cumulative college GPA of 3.0.
• Earn a grade of B or higher in Anatomy with Lab, Physiology with Lab, and Microbiology with Lab.
• Complete all remaining UTPB core curriculum and School of Nursing prerequisite courses with a grade of C or higher.
• Earn a grade of B or higher in all NURS courses.
• Students have two attempts to earn the required grades for admission.
• Anatomy and Physiology courses must be completed at the same college or university.

Before applying to the School of Nursing, you must complete the required prerequisite coursework and meet the minimum course completion requirements.

Applicants must:

• Complete at least 18 of the 23 required general education and pre-nursing courses before submitting their application.
• Submit enrollment verification for any required courses in progress during the application period to nursing@utpb.edu.
• Complete all prerequisites before beginning the Nursing Program (Junior Year, Semester 5).
• Complete PSYC 3301: Intro to Statistics at UT Permian Basin.

The ATI Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), Version 7 or higher, is required for admission to the UTPB School of Nursing.

Applicants must:

• Earn a minimum score of 70% in Math, Reading, and Science.
• Submit official TEAS scores to "U of TX Permian Basin – BSN."
• Ensure TEAS scores are less than two years old at the time of application.
• Complete all required minimum scores on the same test attempt.

Testing Policy

• Applicants are allowed two attempts per application period to earn the required minimum scores.
• A minimum 30-day waiting period is required between test attempts.
• Scores from tests taken before the 30-day waiting period has elapsed will not be considered.

What to Expect

• The ATI Launch Program begins approximately six weeks before the first day of class.
• Admitted students will receive enrollment instructions directly from ATI by email.
• A certificate of completion is required and must be submitted at Nursing Orientation.

Alternative Pathway for Anatomy & Physiology

If you have previously enrolled in a nursing course or another nursing program, additional documentation is required as part of your application.

Applicants must:

• Submit a Letter of Good Standing from the Dean or Director of the previous nursing program. 
• Have the letter sent directly from the previous institution to nursing@utpb.edu.
• Letter submitted by the applicant will not be accepted.

Your application will not be reviewed until all required materials have been received. Before submitting your application, make sure you have completed the following:

• Complete at least 18 of the 23 required general education and pre-nursing courses.
• Submit enrollment verification for any required courses that are still in progress during the application period.
• Submit all required application materials by the published deadline.
• Monitor your application and UTPB email for requests for additional information.

Conditional Admission

Some applicants may receive conditional admission if they are completing the ATI Launch Program through the alternative pathway for Anatomy and Physiology coursework. Full admission is granted after:

• Successfully completing the required ATI Launch Program.
• Meeting all required performance standards established by the University.

Enrollment Policy

Applicants who accept admission to the BSN program twice but do not begin the program will be ineligible for future program consideration.
