Library Guides

Library guides are subject-specific or general research guides created by librarians to provide general research information and resources. Students may find suggested library resources on different subject areas. Access the library guides here or on the library’s page to learn more.

Research Assistance and Consultation
  • Librarians are readily available to offer research assistance to students, both in person and online via Teams.
  • They assist students in navigating through the library resources using FalconFinder and databases to find physical books/eBooks, articles, or research-specific needs.
  • Students needing these services may use the Reference and Instruction/Consultation form located on the library’s website under Library Forms or email libraryinstruction@utpb.edu to request a session.

Workshops
  • Librarians offer workshops and one-on-one or group consultations, which may cover citation styles such as APA, MLA, and the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS).
  • Students may request workshops or consultations by emailing libraryinstruction@utpb.edu or completing the Reference and Instruction/Consultation form, available on the library website under “Resources.”

ASK A Librarian
  • Students may use the library’s chat service to ask research or general questions.
  • The service is available during regular library hours.
  • Questions submitted after hours will be answered promptly on the next business day.

Distance Education Students
  • Students can remotely access library resources 24/7.
  • The library catalog, FalconFinder, and more than 260 databases.
  • Use the interlibrary loan request form on the library website under “Resources” to request resources currently not available through our library.
  • Undergraduates may check out up to 25 books; graduate students up to 50 books.
  • Students whose address is more than 50 miles from the UTPB main campus may request library resources to be shipped to their home. For technology, the Equipment Lending User Agreement form must be completed before the technology is shipped.
  • Return shipping of the library items is the responsibility of the student.

Falcon Commons

  • The institutional repository serves as a digital storehouse for scholarly output from UTPB faculty and students, including research, theses, dissertations, and creative works. It preserves the institution’s history as well as the cultural and scholarly heritage of West Texas.
  • The UTPB community has access to scholarly works created at UTPB, including faculty publications, student theses, dissertations, and conference papers.
  • Faculty, students, and staff may submit theses, dissertations, honors projects, or capstone projects to the repository.

Archives and Special Collections

  • Preserves and provides access to rare, unique, and historically significant materials, including manuscripts, photographs, maps, newspapers, university records, and local history documents.
  • Highlights the history of The University of Texas Permian Basin and the broader West Texas region through curated collections.
  • Faculty, students, staff, and community have access to materials housed in the Archives and Special Collections.
