Center for Energy and Economic Diversification
The Center for Energy and Economic Diversification was the first building of the Midland Expansion of The University of Texas Permian Basin, originally constructed in 1989. Over the years, the CEED has had many different identities, even being the home of the UTPB College of Engineering before their building was constructed nextdoor to the CEED in 2019.
In 2021, as part of the Workforce and Innovation for a Stronger Economy (WISE) initiative, substantial renovations were started to the CEED and the Dunagan Library in Odessa to add workforce development and innovation spaces for UTPB and the local community.
The renovations were completed in 2024, and now the CEED building has 30,000 square feet of workforce development, research, innovation, and commercialization space including leasable office spaces, a coworking suite, wet lab space, a makerspace, conference/event space, and a full-service cafeé.
The primary occupants at the CEED building are the Office of Innovation & Commercialization (OIC), the UTPB Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and two UTPB research labs, the Texas Water and Energy Institute (TWEI) and the Advanced Manufacturing Center (AMC).
The CEED is now the home for innovation at UTPB and in the Permian Basin. Startups, research, industry collaboration, entrepreneurship, the arts - its all here under one roof, and waiting for you to come and innovate. Come by for a tour today!
