UT Permian Basin and the Scharbauer Foundation have teamed up to FULLY COVER the cost of the alternative teacher certification program for Midland ISD educators!
This initiative provides scholarships for 200 Midland ISD educators who need to earn full Texas teacher certification through UTPB’s Falcon Fast Track Alternative Certification Program. The program supports uncertified teachers already working in classrooms by offering a structured, fully online pathway that includes coursework, certification exam preparation, required fees.

What’s not included:
- Non-mandatory institutional fees housed outside of the College of Education
- Tuition and fees for academic courses housed outside of the EPP FAST TRACK teacher certification program
Initial Award Criteria:
- Verified admittance into the EPP Fast Track Teacher Certification Program
- Verification of MISD Employment
- Completed MISD Fast Track Scholarship Application
- For applicants who are current Fast Track students: GPA requirement of 2.5
- **No GPA requirement for new admits**
- Awards will be made on a first come, first served basis.
- Awards are competitive, capped, and based on available funding.
Renewal Criteria:
- Continuous enrollment with no drops or withdrawals
- 2.5 GPA
- Meet with your Fast Track advisor at least once a semester
- Annual verification of MISD employment

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why do I have provide so many official transcripts?
A: TEA requires official transcripts for any attempted coursework. This includes transfer coursework, junior/community college, or high school dual credit.
Q: I received my degree internationally, what requirements must I meet?
A: We must have your official transcript from your university. We can translate the transcripts, unless you have provided a translated copy no more than 5 years old. Additionally, if you are not listed on these TEA Countries where English is the official language, you are required to take and pass TOEFL. We cannot substitute any other work experience or letters in place of these requirements, per TEA.

Q: Do you offer Early Childhood PK-3?
A: No, TEA does not allow any EPP to offer Early Childhood PK-3 as an Alternative Certification route. The other option would be to complete the Core Subjects EC-6 certification.
Q: In order to take my TExES exams, what are the requirements?
A: You must pass your 240 Tutoring practice exam with an 80% or above to be released for your exams.
